Mercedes Censorship Incident

Here are a few articles about it, totally forgot to post about what happened.

Essentially I was told by someone representing Mercedes Benz USA to take down an art piece I had come to install. I asked why, they said it was because it was a competing product. Then the following interview from Mat Gleason took place:

Artinfo picked up on it, where it was published in French, German, and English:

Then the follow-up post from Design & Trend and ArtInfo of the apologies:

All in all, none of this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and functioned with the upmost respect from everyone involved. Censorship is a problem, and I hope that this adds to the ongoing dialog as to why. There needs to be more spaces that respect the lines drawn by the collective “us” that define what principals we have when it comes to censorship. I think that it was obvious that this incident was a one off happening and censorship wasn’t in the intentions of any of the parties involved.

**UPDATE** Called Mercedes-Benz customer care line as requested in an email from Mercedes-Benz USA, talked about the incident and requested to turn this into a success story through support of my work. I guess we will see what happens next!
